First Time in India?

A little guide for travellers

A few practical notes to make the trip easy. Anything we’ve missed, just ask — we’re happy to help.

Visas & entry

Most visitors need an Indian e-Visa. Apply online 2–4 weeks ahead; a 30-day tourist e-Visa is usually plenty.

Money

The rupee (₹). Cards work in hotels; carry cash for markets and tips. ATMs are easy to find in the city.

January weather

Mild winter days around 25°C and cool 8–10°C evenings. Bring a wrap for the night ceremonies.

What to pack

Festive outfits (see Attire), comfy sandals, sunglasses, a light jacket and any medicines you rely on.

Food & water

Stick to bottled or filtered water. The food is extraordinary — go for freshly cooked and enjoy the thalis.

Etiquette

Remove shoes at temples and homes, dress modestly at religious sites, and always say yes to chai.

Staying connected

Grab a local SIM (Airtel or Jio) at the airport with your passport, or set up an eSIM before you fly — we recommend Airalo.

The celebrations

Expect music, dancing and lots of joy. Join in everything — you’ll be warmly pulled onto the dance floor.
